Kelp contains over 30 essential minerals and vitamins. Among them are: Iodine, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Vitamin B1, B2, B12 and polysaccharides.

Culinary Uses of Kelp

Kelp powder can be easily included in practically every dish. You may sprinkle it on entrees, soups, salads, and it makes a marvelous drink in the form of a green smoothie. Simply blend one half to one full teaspoon of kelp powder to your smoothie. Don’t add too much, as it tends to have a salty flavor you don’t want to over power your smoothie.

Re-hydrated kelp is another delicious option that does not have that salty taste. Add a few strands and blend into any smoothie recipe. Feel free to combine with other leafy greens.

Also adds well in teas and in iced drinks. Encapsulated kelp is also available as well as the liquid extract from the fresh plant.

Kelp Face Pack Recipe

Seaweed is amazing for firming up your skin and giving it a healthy “glow”. Kelp, dulse, and wakame have similar properties to human plasma, and are also concentrated sources of many minerals (including iodine) and vitamins that leave skin nourished, soft, smooth, and radiant.

  • 1 tablespoon kelp powder
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon Chia gel (recipe below)

Mix the ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring until combined. Apply to clean facial skin, allowing the mixture to sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove gently with a washcloth that has been moistened in warm water.
