On-going studies on whey cover a myraid of health issues, according to the Mayo Clinic. Further studies are required before conclusions can be made in all of the following:

  • Based on limited study, whey protein may have positive benefits for patients with cancer.
  • Infant formula containing whey protein hydrolysates may have positive benefits for infants with constipation.
  • Whey protein may have some positive effects in individuals with cystic fibrosis, such as increased weight gain.
  • Based on limited study, a toothpaste product containing whey protein may have positive benefits for individuals with dental plaque.
  • Whey protein may aid in the prevention of diarrhea caused by bacterial infection.
  • Based on limited human study, whey protein may lower blood pressure.
  • Whey protein may have beneficial effects in individuals with HIV.

Whey & Muscle Building

Whey is a complete protein made from milk that is easily digestible unless you suffer from lactose intolerance or dairy allergies.

Whey can limit muscle break-down and help with muscle repair and rebuilding, especially when consumed within 60 minutes of your work out, when enzyme and protein synthesis is most active.

Look for whey protein isolate – not concentrate – as it contains the highest protein concentration (90 to 95 percent) and very little fat.


Use cautiously in patients on other medications. Drugs may bind to human milk whey proteins. As a result, the levels of the drugs may be altered in the blood.
