Jelly Devote Weight Loss Transformation
Jelly Devote’s journey from an unhealthy lifestyle to becoming a fitness icon is nothing short of remarkable. At her heaviest, Devote weighed around 154 pounds (70 KG), a result of a diet rich in processed foods and regular alcohol consumption.
She said: “When I was young, I was always considered ‘normal’ not big, not small just normal.
“But all of the sudden, when I hit my twenties I started to put on lots of weight.
“I was eating and drinking a lot of alcohol and soda and a lot of processed food.
“I would never cook and would only get ready meals or fast food.
“I have no idea how much I ate and I never went to the gym what so ever.
“I ended up weighing in about 70kgs and was very unhealthy. I had an unhealthy life in general.”
In a recent before-and-after post on Instagram, Devote shared side-by-side photos of herself at 20-years-old, which she captioned “alcohol,” and now at 27-years-old, captioned “water.”
The Turning Point
The catalyst for change was a photograph that Devote found unflattering. This moment of self-realization, coupled with her grandmother’s concern about her weight, propelled her towards a healthier path.
Jelly Devote said: “I saw a photo of myself in a bikini and that triggered me to start transforming my body.
“I hated myself and thought I looked horrible.
“I almost didn’t recognise myself and realised then I needed to change. I felt like the outside didn’t match my inside.
“Then as well, my grandma just said, ‘you have gained a lot of weight’ and when your grandma that always wants to feed you with loads of food, thinks you’ve got big – that hurts.
“I wasn’t happy that’s why I chose to start working out.”
She said: “I stopped with alcohol and started to cook my food instead, so I always made sure I ate healthy.
“I went to the gym and now I am lighter and happy and healthy.”
She added: “I now work with my biggest passion, which is fitness.
“I get to inspire and help others to be the best version of them self. And thanks to this job I can travel the world and I have experienced and grown so much from this experience.”
Devote’s transformation began with eliminating processed foods and alcohol, and incorporating regular workouts into her routine.

The Role of Diet and Exercise
Devote’s weight loss strategy was multifaceted. She focused on a diet high in vegetables and proteins, cutting out soda and processed foods. Her approach to exercise was equally disciplined.
Jelly said: “Now, finally, I’ve found a balance where I eat the right food, make sure to exercise at least 3-6 times a week, and don’t starve myself. I’ve honestly never felt better. To live a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to eat both enough calories with essential nutrients, but also to exercise!”
Devote credits a balanced lifestyle for her transformation, which she wrote on Instagram includes: “eating a doughnut followed by a salad.”
She also works out three to six times a week.
However, the most important change, according to Devote, was cutting out alcohol.
She told Cosmopolitan.com: “It’s simply impossible to have a healthy body and mind with that much consumption of alcohol.”
By replacing her champagne with water and vegetables, Devote was able to drop 30lbs in just four months.
Cutting Down on Alcohol
One of the most significant changes in Devote’s lifestyle was reducing her alcohol intake. Previously, her routine involved drinking several times a week. By limiting herself to one or two glasses of wine per week, she noticed a considerable impact on her weight and overall health.
A Balanced Approach to Fitness
Devote’s fitness regime is not just about losing weight but maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. She emphasizes the importance of not overtraining and ensuring that her body gets the necessary rest. Her approach is a blend of gym workouts and a balanced diet, which she shares with her followers on social media.
Although she’s had some setbacks, like a back injury that threatened her motivation to exercise several years ago, she’s always rebounded with newfound resolve. “When I drag myself back to the gym, I fall in love with fitness all over again and enjoy it more than ever,” says Devote, who’s learned to put more stock in her mindset than her weight, which she no longer tracks. “Most importantly, I’ve gone from hating myself to loving myself,” she wrote on Instagram.

With a strong presence on Instagram and other platforms, Devote uses her story to inspire others. She shares her workout routines, diet plans, and personal experiences, encouraging her followers to embark on their fitness journeys.

“Weight doesn’t matter, you matter,” she said on Instagram. “How you feel about yourself. Don’t focus on a number that can fluctuate 5kg in two days.”

The Link between Alcohol Consumption and Weight Gain
The relationship between alcohol consumption and weight gain is a topic of significant interest in nutritional science and public health. Here’s an overview of the role alcohol plays in weight gain, supported by research studies and authentic sources:
High Caloric Intake
Alcoholic beverages are often high in calories. For instance, a standard glass of wine can contain around 120-130 calories, and a pint of beer about 150-200 calories. These calories are termed “empty calories” because they provide little to no nutritional value. (1)
Altering Metabolic Processes
Alcohol can alter the body’s metabolic processes. The liver prioritizes metabolizing alcohol over other nutrients, which can lead to the storage of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins as body fat. (2)
Increased Appetite
Alcohol consumption can stimulate appetite, leading to increased food intake. This effect can contribute to weight gain, especially if the food choices are high in calories and fat. (3)
Impaired Judgment and Overeating
Alcohol can impair judgment and self-control, which may lead to overeating or poor food choices. People are more likely to consume unhealthy foods when they have consumed alcohol. (4)
Reduced Energy Expenditure
Regular alcohol consumption can lead to a reduction in physical activity, further contributing to weight gain. (5)
